Pandas are known for their furry black-and-white markings, so wildlife experts were stunned to see an all-white panda with red eyes tramping through a bamboo forest in Chinese National park.
This wild giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is the first known albino of its kind.
With its distinctive white fur, the giant panda looks like a lost polar bear, but it is perfectly at home in a humid environment. In addition to the fur and white claws, the photo reveals that he also has red eyes, indicating that it is an animal with albinism – a rare genetic mutation that results in loss of pigmentation of skin, eyes and hair.
