Deep-Sea Camera Catches Real-Life SpongeBob And Patrick

An ocean expedition exploring the depths of the Atlantic Ocean has captured a video that looks like a cartoon come true. The cartoon is SpongeBob SquarePants, to be exact. The video shows a square yellow sponge and a pink starfish right next to it. Familiar, isn’t it?

Christopher Mah, research associate at the National Museum of Natural History and NOAA collaborator, was watching the camera feed when he spotted the yellow sponge and pink starfish next to each other , which reminded him of SpongeBob SquarePants and his best friend Patrick.

While SpongeBob and Patrick may be best friends in the cartoon, they’re actually enemies in the real world — sea stars eat sponges.
