German Shepherd Lost At Sea Found Alive After 5 Weeks

A dog who was presumed dead after missing in the Pacific Ocean for five weeks has been found alive.

Luna, a one-year-old German Shepherd, was on a commercial fishing trip with her owner Nick Haworth when she fell overboard about two miles off San Clemente, a naval island off the coast of San Diego.

Haworth reported her missing on February 10 and then spent days scouring the area with help from the Navy. However, Luna was ultimately presumed dead.

5 weeks later, staff at the St. Clemente Island Navy Auxiliary Landing Field spotted a dog sitting on the side of the road as they arrived for work.

Sandy DeMunnik, a Navy public affairs officer, said, “She was just sitting there wagging her tail.”

It seemed that Luna had managed to swim to shore and had lived on rodents and dead fish until she was rescued.
