Hunter Finds Lost GoPro Containing Footage Filmed By A Bear

While engaged in wilderness archery hunting near Laramie, Wyoming, an individual came upon an aged GoPro camera. Upon returning to his camp and recharging the device, he discovered several minutes of footage that seemed to have been recorded by a bear.

Dylan Schilt, during his time in the wilderness, chanced upon the camera, estimating that it had probably remained there for numerous months. He detailed the encounter on his Facebook page.

“Last week when I was up archery hunting, I stumbled across a GoPro that was lost while snowmobiling. When I got back to camp I charged it up and couldn’t believe what I saw,” Schilt writes. “After four months of it sitting there, a big old black bear found it and not only managed to turn it on but also started recording himself playing with it.”

The footage he shared, spanning over four minutes, depicts what seems to be an American black bear engaging with the GoPro. The bear can be observed swatting at the device with its paws and even holding it in its mouth. The scenes distinctly reveal a substantial amount of snow on the ground, while the trees around remain snow-free. Additionally, the snow on the ground appears moist, which aligns with Schilt’s suggested timeframe of late spring.

Whether the bear briefly considers the GoPro as potential food or is merely intrigued by an object that deviates from its natural environment remains uncertain.
