Do sperm whales sleep? This is not a question that is asked frequently, but when it is, no one is wiser to answer it. That’s until now, of course, as we now have photographic evidence of these ocean giants napping.
Recently, a Swiss photographer Franco Banfi photographed an extremely rare group of sperm whales in their sleep. He and a team of divers followed the pack into the Caribbean Sea, near the island of Dominica, when suddenly the whales stopped moving and entered a synchronized vertical rest.
